Yuki Tsunoda was absolutely fuming during a practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix. You’ve got to feel for the guy—high-pressure laps are no joke.
It was the end of Free Practice 2, and VCARB driver Yuki Tsunoda was in a high-stakes rush to clock in a fast lap. A red flag caused by Charles Leclerc’s crash had already delayed things at Turn 4, adding even more tension. Drivers switched to soft tires to simulate qualifying pace, and the stakes were sky-high.
Mattia Spini, Tsunoda’s race engineer, was doing his job, urging Yuki to pick up the pace. He was on the radio saying, ‘Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. Charge off.’ But Tsunoda wasn’t having it. ‘OK, don’t rush me!’ he snapped, clearly not appreciating the added pressure.
Tsunoda’s fast lap didn’t go as planned, landing him in the 19th position. But the real drama unfolded in a radio message shared exclusively with F1TV viewers. As Tsunoda crossed the finish line, he let loose: ‘I think you should just let me— ****!’ Spini tried to cool things down with ‘Yuki, we’re just trying to help.’ To which Tsunoda sarcastically replied, ‘Thanks for the help!’
This isn’t the first time Tsunoda has let his temper get the best of him. In 2022, Helmut Marko even called him a ‘problem child’ and recommended therapy. Earlier this season, Tsunoda was fined for using an inappropriate slur over the radio during the Austrian Grand Prix.
Despite his outbursts, Tsunoda believes he deserves a top seat. He’s been vocal about his readiness to compete at the highest level, even eyeing a spot alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull. Perhaps this fiery passion is what will eventually land him that coveted position.
