In a day filled with mixed results, Lando Norris has his sights set on a competitive qualification round at the Spanish Grand Prix. After leading the first practice session and finishing third in the second, Norris believes that the smallest factors could determine the outcome this Saturday.
Norris began his day on a high note by leading the first practice session. Although he couldn’t replicate the top spot in the second session, finishing third still boosts his confidence for the weekend. “I think it’s been a pretty good day,” he shared, acknowledging the challenge due to the scorching weather. “The tires overheat swiftly, making it tough to maintain them in an ideal condition. However, it’s still a promising start to the weekend.”
Feeling at ease with the car’s performance, Norris is optimistic about the upcoming qualifying round. “It’s close, and it’s going to be about trying to improve small things tomorrow because I’m sure it’s going to be close again like it was in Canada,” he noted. When asked about the improvements, he emphasized enhancing “a little bit in every area.”
During discussions on Thursday, Norris expressed his expectations for the team to perform well across all circuits, citing their consistent performance this season. “We’ve been good at all of them so far, so I don’t expect things to change drastically,” he stated. He anticipates a tight competition among Ferrari, Red Bull, and his team.
Norris highlighted the consistency his team has maintained, a significant improvement from last year’s erratic performances. “But at no point would I say we’ve been the outright absolute best through a whole weekend. So that’s something we still need to work on and we still need to work to have a quicker car,” he acknowledged.
As the Spanish Grand Prix approaches, Lando Norris stands prepared for a tough qualifying session. Despite the challenges posed by external conditions and strong competition, his focus on incremental improvements and team consistency will be crucial in vying for a top position.
