Alpine’s Doohan Stands In for Ocon in Canada’s F1 FP1

Red Bull’s Secret to Crafting the Perfect Strategy for Verstappen and Pérez

Esteban Ocon out and Jack Doohan in for Canadian Grand Prix FP1 session

Get ready for some shake-ups at the Canadian Grand Prix! Jack Doohan, Alpine’s reserve driver, is stepping in for Esteban Ocon during the first free practice session of the season. This isn’t Doohan’s first rodeo; he’s had Friday runs in Mexico and Abu Dhabi in previous years. But this time, the move follows some high drama within the Alpine team.

Doohan is filling in for Ocon in Montreal, a decision that comes on the heels of a tense incident at the Monaco Grand Prix where Ocon collided with his teammate Pierre Gasly. Although this crash isn’t the only reason for Ocon stepping aside, it has certainly played a role in the reshuffle within the team.

Alpine’s team principal, Bruno Famin, hasn’t directly linked the swap to the Monaco event. Instead, he emphasized, ‘With Jack’s great work in the simulator in recent races, we can count on his valuable feedback in Montreal.’ Doohan has been focusing on reserve and simulator duties for Alpine this year after choosing not to continue in F2. He’s hopeful that a strong showing in Montreal will boost his chances of securing a full-time race seat for next season.

Ocon is officially leaving Alpine at the end of the season but hasn’t nailed down his future plans yet. He’s rumored to be in talks with Haas and Sauber/Audi for a seat in 2025. Amid this uncertainty and following the Monaco fiasco, Ocon took to social media to address the backlash he faced, saying he’s eager to get back on track and focus on upcoming races. ‘A lot has been said in recent days, so I am very much looking forward to driving again and getting back out on track. My focus and energy is fully dedicated to the team and maximizing our results on track, starting already this weekend in Canada,’ said Ocon.

For Doohan, this opportunity is a pivotal moment. If he can deliver strong feedback and performance, he might just cement his place within the Alpine squad. The team and fans alike will be watching closely to see how he handles this high-stakes outing.

All eyes will be on Jack Doohan as he races in Montreal, stepping into Esteban Ocon’s shoes for the first free practice. With so much riding on his performance, both for his future and the team’s dynamics, it’s bound to be a thrilling session.
