Alain Prost, a name synonymous with Formula 1 greatness, will once again feel the rush of his McLaren MP4/4 at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. This iconic car, which Prost famously drove alongside Ayrton Senna in the 1988 season, set a remarkable record with 15 wins out of 16 races. It remained the sport’s most dominant machine until Red Bull’s RB19 topped its win percentage in 2023.
The MP4/4, particularly Chassis No.4, is remembered for Prost’s victories at the Monaco, French, and Mexican Grands Prix. Owned by Nicholas and Shelley Schorsch of the Audrain Collection, this chassis will be among the highlights of the festival, with runs scheduled for July 12th and 13th. While Prost won’t drive the MP4/2B, he will share the festival’s spotlight with Rob Garofall and Bruno Senna, who will handle this legendary car.
Adding to the excitement, J.J. Lehto will commemorate his win from 30 years ago by driving the McLaren F1 GTR at the festival. This reflects McLaren’s celebration of their historic achievements, including Prost’s first Drivers’ Championship victory 40 years ago.
Not to be missed is a special creation by McLaren apprentices and interns, who meticulously built an M23 model as a tribute to Emerson Fittipaldi’s championship victories in 1974 and James Hunt’s success in 1976. Using period-accurate techniques, they crafted the 14th chassis of the M23, paying homage to the racing greats by avoiding the ‘unlucky’ number 13 and dubbing it M23-15.
Throughout the festival, McLaren’s rich legacy will be on full display, from the renowned cars making their way up the famous Goodwood hill to the showcasing of the MCL38 and the 2008 MP4/23. This event celebrates McLaren’s past victories and their continued relevance in the racing world.
McLaren’s participation at the Goodwood Festival of Speed is a vivid celebration of their legacy and current prowess in Formula 1.
