Adrian Newey’s presence at the Silverstone grid, sketching rivals’ upgrades, has sparked speculation about his next career move in Formula 1.
Ted Kravitz, a well-known pit lane reporter, recently noted the intriguing activities of Adrian Newey at the Silverstone race, suggesting that the legendary designer is far from retiring from Formula 1. As Newey spent time sketching and analyzing competitors’ car designs, it became “obvious” to Kravitz that he was preparing to transition to a different team.
After an illustrious career with Red Bull, which included seven Drivers’ Championships and six Constructors’ Championships, Newey is set to leave the team in 2025. Despite expressing exhaustion from the relentless demands of Formula 1, he has not ruled out continuing his journey in the sport with another team.
Currently balancing his time between leisure trips and developing Red Bull’s RB17 hypercar, Newey still appears at races such as Silverstone. His actions at the event lead to speculation that he might be joining a new team, with Kravitz pointing out that Newey is still actively engaged in understanding car designs beyond his current obligations with Red Bull.
Although early rumors linked him with Ferrari, Aston Martin has emerged as a strong contender for Newey’s next destination. Reports even suggest he has visited Aston Martin’s facilities, though he continues to attend races sporting Red Bull apparel.
Newey himself remains noncommittal about his future. In a conversation with Sky F1, he mentioned, “I don’t know. At the moment I’m just kind of still working on the RB17, and then just taking some time off.” His response to whether he will know his plans by autumn or winter was, “That’s certainly a target, by then I’ll need to make my mind up.”
While Adrian Newey decides his next move, the Formula 1 world eagerly anticipates where this design genius will land next, knowing that his contributions could redefine a team’s success.
