Carlos Sainz is making a big switch in the F1 world! Starting in 2025, Sainz will be racing for Williams, leaving Ferrari behind.
Sainz’s decision follows a whirlwind driver market this year. Ferrari signed Lewis Hamilton to race alongside Charles Leclerc, leaving Sainz in need of a new team.
Williams initially believed they had missed out on Sainz when Alpine made a surprise offer around the time of the Barcelona race. However, team boss James Vowles expressed confidence during the Belgian GP weekend that they could secure Sainz’s services.
On Monday afternoon, Williams confirmed Sainz’s two-year contract, beginning in 2025. He will replace Logan Sargeant, who will receive support from the team as he looks to continue his racing career.
“I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Williams Racing from 2025 onwards,” Sainz said. The Spaniard also stated his excitement about joining a historic and successful team like Williams.
Sainz is determined to help Williams return to the front of the grid. “I am convinced that this team has all the right ingredients to make history again,” he said. He credited Vowles and the Williams board for their trust and determination in securing his move.
James Vowles praised Sainz, saying, “Carlos has demonstrated time and again that he is one of the most talented drivers on the grid.” He believes Sainz’s experience and drive will be a perfect fit for Williams.
In opting for Williams, Sainz turned down a reportedly lucrative offer from the Sauber/Audi project, making it more likely that Valtteri Bottas will stay with them if desired by new boss Mattia Binotto.
Alpine is also still searching for a driver to join Pierre Gasly in 2025. Meanwhile, Mercedes and Red Bull are working out their own driver line-ups for the next season. Despite rumors, Vowles denied that Sainz’s deal included any break clause for 2026.
With Sainz joining, Williams aims to revitalize their team dynamics and compete fiercely in future championships. All eyes will be on how this move reshapes the F1 landscape.
