Juri Vips, a former Red Bull junior, is getting another chance in the IndyCar series with the Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) team. Despite a controversial past, Vips is determined to show his worth.
Vips was previously dropped from the Red Bull junior program in 2022 for using a racial slur during a gaming stream. Replaced by Liam Lawson, Vips faced a challenging time but continued his racing journey.
He participated in two races for RLL last year, finishing as high as 18th. Although these results were modest, his potential was evident enough for the team to bring him back.
RLL co-owner Bobby Rahal praised Vips, noting his speed and efforts in the simulator, especially with understanding the new hybrid systems. This dedication has earned Vips another opportunity to race.
With Christian Lundgaard leaving RLL for Arrow McLaren in 2025, Vips has a potential full-time seat waiting if he performs well. This could mark his return to a full-time racing season since the 2022 Formula 2 Championship.
Vips will drive the No. 75 Honda in Portland on August 25, facing the challenge of the new hybrid powertrains. He expressed gratitude for the chance and confidence that his past experiences will help him adapt quickly.
Vips’ upcoming race in Portland could be the key to a full-time comeback in IndyCar.
