- He hopes minor tweaks and improved rhythm will enhance his performance.
- Wet conditions are expected, and McLaren is adjusting their setup accordingly.
Lando Norris made waves at the Belgian Grand Prix by setting the fastest lap in the second practice session with a time of 1:42.260. Despite this, the McLaren driver confessed he’s not entirely at ease with his car.
Norris finished more than two tenths ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri but remained wary of Red Bull’s competitive pace, particularly with Max Verstappen’s strong performance despite a grid penalty for a new engine.
In reflecting on his day, Norris shared his concerns, stating, ‘I just haven’t felt very comfortable today with the car, so hopefully I just wake up tomorrow and feel a bit more comfortable with it.’ He emphasized the need for minor adjustments to find a better rhythm and improve his track performance.
Minor tweaks, rather than major changes, seem to be Norris’ approach. ‘It’s not like you ever really change the whole car overnight anymore,’ he explained, stressing the importance of being prepared and having a good setup from the start.
Anticipated wet conditions at Spa have led McLaren to consider a high-downforce setup. Norris noted, ‘Generally for the rain you want to edge towards the higher downforce and I think that’s maybe the direction to go in anyway.’ His previous crash at Spa in 2021 adds to the caution in his approach.
All eyes are on Norris as he seeks to turn his cautious optimism into a winning strategy at Spa.
