Lewis Hamilton is gearing up for the Canadian Grand Prix with renewed enthusiasm after a promising performance during Friday’s practice sessions in Montreal.
The seven-time World Champion has expressed confidence that Mercedes is inching closer to the front of the grid. Hamilton’s optimism follows a positive Friday, where he finished fourth in the first practice session and seventh in the second, despite not being able to complete his fastest lap during the afternoon.
Hamilton’s eagerness was palpable. He admitted to pushing his team to get back on the track as quickly as possible to make the most of the changing conditions. ‘I felt great. I was just raring to go every second. I kept telling the guys:
get out, get out, get out,’
he shared enthusiastically
The track conditions at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve were highly variable, featuring everything from sunshine to hailstones. This unpredictability didn’t deter Hamilton—in fact, he seemed to relish it, comparing the day’s weather to a summer’s day in the UK. Despite the interruptions, he found the practice sessions extremely productive and felt the car was performing well.
When asked about targeting the cars ahead, Hamilton was cautiously optimistic. ‘Honestly, it’s too early to say,’ he remarked. ‘I feel like I’m in fighting spirits, I feel like the car is reacting to my inputs, and I feel really confident out there. But we won’t know until we get out [tomorrow]. I’m hopeful and do feel like we’re closer to the front this weekend.’
Hamilton has a storied history at this venue, having claimed his first career victory in Montreal back in 2007, and he’s gone on to win there seven times. At 39, his passion for the track and the sport remains undiminished. Highlighting his love for the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, he said, ‘This circuit is amazing. It’s one of the best circuits.’
As Hamilton prepares for the rest of the weekend, his ‘fighting spirit’ and optimism could well set the stage for a memorable performance at the Canadian Grand Prix.
