Liam Lawson’s brief experience with the Red Bull senior team was challenging, ending with a quick return to Racing Bulls. Over two races, Lawson struggled to make his mark, unable to escape Q1 or score any points, particularly in tough races in Australia and China. Now, back with Racing Bulls, Lawson is determined to rebuild his career.

Team principal Laurent Mekies openly admitted that Lawson was not pleased with his demotion, describing it as ‘difficult to digest.’ However, Lawson quickly returned to action. Within days, he was completing a seat fit at Faenza and was back in the simulator, gearing up for his return to the Japanese Grand Prix. The team acknowledges his role in the midfield battle and is focused on restoring his confidence.

Mekies expressed surprise at Lawson’s struggles, admitting that no one expected him to be at the back of the grid. This unexpected turn of events has not deterred the team’s confidence in his abilities. They are committed to finding the right conditions to bring out his talent, starting anew after tough race experiences.

Previously, Lawson was chosen over Tsunoda as the replacement for Sergio Perez, despite Tsunoda’s considerable experience. Now, Tsunoda takes his chance with Red Bull, while Lawson partners with promising rookie Isack Hadjar at Racing Bulls, aiming to prove himself once more. Mekies highlighted the importance of nurturing talent for the Red Bull family and hopes to present competitive drivers for potential senior team positions.

Returning to Suzuka, a track familiar to him, Lawson has prior racing experience here, both for Racing Bulls in 2023 and in Super Formula. The team is hopeful that this familiarity will aid in his comeback journey.

As Lawson returns to a familiar racing ground, the stage is set for a potential comeback with Racing Bulls.
