Here’s the scoop: Martin Brundle thinks Lando Norris was looking a bit down at Spa.
- Norris admitted he wasn’t proud of recent events involving his teammate.
- He lost positions early in the Belgian Grand Prix.
- McLaren’s team principal has explanations for Norris’ challenges.
- Brundle wonders if the Hungaroring incident still affects Norris.
Over the weekend at Spa, Martin Brundle observed that Lando Norris seemed a bit down. Brundle speculated that team orders from the Hungarian Grand Prix might still be weighing on Norris’ mind.
In Hungary, Norris was told to let his teammate Oscar Piastri pass, helping Piastri secure his first Grand Prix victory. Days later at Spa-Francorchamps, Norris confessed he wasn’t too proud of how things went down, saying he felt he ‘kind of clouded over’ his teammate’s win.
Brundle noted Norris’ solid performances despite this apparent unhappiness. He suggested the incidents in Budapest were likely still on Norris’ mind. ‘Lando Norris appeared a little unhappy about something all weekend despite solid performances,’ Brundle mentioned in a column.
Norris started fourth in Belgium but lost three spots early after running wide at La Source, a recurring issue as it was the second race in a row where he lost places at the start.
McLaren’s team principal, Andrea Stella, thinks these moments are ‘marginal’ from Norris’ perspective. Stella believes that with some adjustments, both Norris and Piastri can perform even better for the remainder of the season.
Stella mentioned that Norris might have been ‘a little distracted,’ causing him to run out of track. He emphasized minor tweaks and better collaboration could help the team capitalize on their talents.
Stella highlighted that these early-race issues might be random or could indicate something else that needs addressing. He noted Norris’ tendency to lose positions early and suggested this needs further analysis to identify improvements.
Time will tell if Norris can shake off Hungary and focus fully on the rest of the season.
