Oscar Piastri was in the thick of it during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, but the spotlight turned to his teammate, Lando Norris, after the race. Norris’ McLaren chassis was randomly selected for an FIA inspection focusing on its low pressure fuel system.
The random post-race checks resulted in a thorough examination of McLaren’s low pressure fuel system, ensuring compliance with technical regulation Articles 5.11 and 6. As per FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer, extensive physical inspections and compliance checks conducted at the FIA Technical Centre in Valleiry confirmed that all components were in line with the 2024 Formula One Technical Regulations.
This scrutiny comes in the wake of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc hinting at some unconventional energy and engine maneuvers by McLaren and Red Bull, although no solid evidence has surfaced to support these claims.
The thorough inspection didn’t uncover any irregularities, giving McLaren a clean bill of health as they prepare for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. The team has shown solid performance recently, with at least one driver finishing in the top two in the last four races. Piastri himself secured a second-place finish behind Leclerc in Monaco.
Currently sitting third in the Constructors’ Championship with 184 points, McLaren trails behind Ferrari and Red Bull, who hold 252 and 276 points respectively. With the Canadian Grand Prix looming, McLaren aims to maintain its competitive edge and close the gap.
The exhaustive FIA inspection cleared McLaren’s low pressure fuel system of any compliance issues, allowing the team to focus on continuing their strong performance as they head into the Canadian Grand Prix.
