From Formula 1 to the World Endurance Championship to IndyCar? Mick Schumacher is catching the eyes of Dale Coyne Racing as talks with the German driver heat up.
Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, had a rollercoaster ride during his two seasons with Haas. After being dropped by team boss Guenther Steiner, he landed a reserve driver role with Mercedes while also participating in a World Endurance programme with Alpine.
However, despite his affiliations with two F1 teams, it appears Schumacher might miss out on a return to the grid for the 2025 championship. Reports suggest that Mercedes might promote junior driver Kimi Antonelli, while Alpine is considering Jack Doohan and Victor Martins as potential picks should they not retain Pierre Gasly or Esteban Ocon.
With these developments, Schumacher might be looking at a new direction for his career and possibly a new continent. According to German publication Auto Motor und Sport, Dale Coyne Racing is keen on signing the 25-year-old driver. Dale Coyne has stated, ‘There are all these Formula 2 drivers who finish first or second but have no real future in Formula 1. Mick Schumacher is a perfect example. We would love to welcome such a great driver here. We are talking to Mick Schumacher. But he is still pinning his hopes on the Alpine commitment. I would be happy if we were given the chance.’
On his part, Schumacher remains focused on a return to Formula 1. ‘My goal and my dream is to drive in Formula 1. That has always been the case and always will be. That’s why we have to make sure that the dominoes now fall in my favour and that I hopefully end up with a seat. What I can do for that is simply give my best performance in the WEC and also in Formula 1 and continue to perform well for the team as reserve driver and continue to hold talks,’ he shared.
As the 2025 F1 grid shapes up, it is still unclear where Schumacher will ultimately land. The racing world will be watching closely as his career path unfolds.
Whether Mick Schumacher will stay in Formula 1 or venture into IndyCar remains uncertain. One thing is clear: his talent and ambition continue to make him a driver to watch.
