Paul Monaghan opens up about his recent decision to extend his contract with Red Bull, highlighting the team’s enduring appeal.

  • Monaghan is among several key Red Bull technical staff members who have chosen to re-sign.
  • This stability comes as Adrian Newey announces his departure from Red Bull by mid-2025.
  • Monaghan first joined Red Bull in 2005 and has been an integral part of the team for almost two decades.
  • He describes Red Bull as a place where he can enjoy his work and be surrounded by familiar faces.

Paul Monaghan recently described Red Bull as “home” while explaining his decision to extend his contract with the team. According to Monaghan, re-signing felt like the right choice. “Is the grass greener on the other side? I don’t know,” he said, laughing.

Red Bull has been solidifying its technical team, with Monaghan being the latest to re-sign, following Pierre Waché, Enrico Balbo, and Ben Waterhouse. This move comes at a crucial time as Adrian Newey, the chief technical officer, prepares to leave by mid-2025.

Despite speculation about potential new destinations for key Red Bull staff, Monaghan remains committed, having first joined the team in 2005. He’s excited about the team becoming an independent F1 and power unit manufacturer by 2026.

“You look at what’s coming over the next few years and the people I know… faces come and go, but it’s kind of become home,” he said. Monaghan is eager to see Red Bull’s transition to producing their own engines through the Red Bull Power Trains program.

Monaghan shared that his job at Red Bull has never felt like a “real one.” He enjoys the hard work and camaraderie. “You get up in the morning and think ‘Yes! It’s not a real job.'” His sentiments are echoed by his colleague Pierre Waché, who also sees Red Bull as more of a team than a company.

Monaghan appreciates Red Bull’s approach to allowing their staff the freedom to develop and operate autonomously. He believes this environment fosters a unique racing mentality. “We are winning together and we are losing together,” Waché explained, emphasizing the mutual trust within the team.

Monaghan’s decision to stay with Red Bull underscores the team’s appealing environment and promising future.
