It feels like Groundhog Day as Sergio Perez’s future at Red Bull is once again in jeopardy.
Having scored 103 points in the first six races of the 2024 Formula One season, Checo has slumped to just 28 points in the past eight events. Despite signing a new contract in May, Perez’s future has been under intense speculation since a report revealed he could be ousted from the team at the summer break if he failed to stay within 100 points of Max Verstappen.
However, after the Belgium Grand Prix, Perez was 146 points behind Verstappen. Just when it seemed like the axe would fall, Christian Horner revealed that the team has decided to retain Checo’s services for the rest of the season. The anticipated promotion of Daniel Ricciardo alongside the world champion will now not happen.
Meanwhile, TRJ13 reported that Ricciardo and Lawson will now face off in a testing day shootout. Both drivers will test in Monza this week on Wednesday in 2022 cars as per FIA regulations.
It appears that, for now, Perez’s position at Red Bull is safe. Fans will be eagerly watching how he performs in the remaining races.
