With the F1 2025 season approaching and available race seats disappearing quickly, Daniel Ricciardo finds himself in a precarious position, waiting to see if his F1 journey will continue.
Ricciardo, currently driving for Team RB, has expressed a sense of acceptance regarding his uncertain future in Formula 1. Speaking ahead of the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, the Australian driver shared with media outlets, including PlanetF1.com, that he feels content knowing he has done everything within his power to maintain his spot on the grid. Despite his efforts, he acknowledges that his future remains uncertain as he waits for a final decision from his team.
When asked about the timing of Team RB’s decision, Ricciardo maintained a pragmatic perspective. He mentioned, ‘I don’t want to be casual about it, because obviously I care a lot, but I don’t know. Maybe I’m at a point where it’s just like what will be will be.’ He emphasized his commitment to giving his all in terms of effort and performance, understanding that if it secures him a seat, that would be ideal, but if not, he is at peace knowing he did his best. This attitude reflects his understanding that overthinking the situation could be detrimental, and focusing on the task at hand is paramount.
Currently, Team RB is placed sixth in the World Constructors’ Championship, indicating a challenging season for Ricciardo and his teammate Yuki Tsunoda. Ricciardo has managed only one points-scoring finish in the last ten races, while Tsunoda has seen better results with five finishes in the top ten. Meanwhile, discussions have surfaced around the team’s direction, especially following remarks from Dr. Helmut Marko. Marko, overseeing Red Bull’s F1 teams, highlighted a shareholder interest in reverting the team to its roots as a driver development hub.
Considering Ricciardo’s extensive experience with over a decade in the sport and his tenure with both Red Bull and its junior teams, his role as a ‘young’ developmental driver seems unlikely. It appears the team might look toward newer talent with Liam Lawson being a candidate. Lawson made a notable impression when he filled in for Ricciardo in 2023. Additionally, with many seats already taken for the next season, Ricciardo’s options are diminishing, making his transfer decisions even more critical.
Although Daniel Ricciardo’s future with Team RB and within Formula 1 remains uncertain, he remains steadfast in his approach, doing his utmost to secure his place. Regardless of the outcome, Ricciardo’s attitude reflects a deep sense of accomplishment and calmness, rooted in the belief that he’s given his best effort throughout his racing career.
