Daniel Ricciardo will remain with the team after Formula 1’s summer break, avoiding any driver changes for now.
In a recent meeting at the Milton Keynes factory, senior figures, including team principal Christian Horner and motorsport advisor Helmut Marko, decided to keep Ricciardo in their lineup. The discussions also covered Sergio Perez, who will continue racing for Red Bull.
Ricciardo has had a mixed season so far. Despite showing flashes of speed, he has struggled to maintain consistency. He was considered a potential replacement for Perez but also faced the possibility of being replaced by Liam Lawson.
However, Ricciardo turned things around recently. His performance improved significantly, especially in Belgium, where he was promoted into the points. The team now feels there’s no need for a change, stating it’s important to make him feel comfortable in the car.
CEO Peter Bayer praised Ricciardo’s contributions, saying, “Daniel certainly has helped us tremendously. He brought new energy and spirit into the team and has been very supportive of Yuki Tsunoda.” Tsunoda also expressed his continued learning from Ricciardo.
Ricciardo knows his future hinges on delivering strong performances. He said, “I haven’t been told anything, but I’ve told myself, ‘Fucking do it’ – go fast.” With two crucial races ahead, he’s focused on securing his spot for next year.
Ricciardo will participate in a filming day at Imola, alongside Liam Lawson. With renewed confidence, he’s ready to prove his worth in the upcoming races.
