Sergio Perez had high hopes starting from second on the grid at the Belgian Grand Prix. Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. Perez admitted, “It was a very disappointing race.”
Perez struggled with battery issues early on and found his car weak on the straights. Even after managing the battery, it didn’t get any easier for him. “I was just staying there,” he explained about his midfield battle with Lewis and Charles.
As the race progressed to the second stint, switching to medium tires amid heavy traffic made things tricky for Perez. He also faced challenges with tire balance and overall race strategy, saying, “We were just out of sync, I think.”
In a bid to salvage something from the race, Perez was called into the pits late for soft tires to try and set the fastest lap. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to turn the race around. “There are plenty of things we need to analyze,” he noted, frustrated by the strong pace of Mercedes and Ferrari.
Despite the tough race, Perez remains optimistic about his future at Red Bull. He assured, “I’m 100% sure I will remain a driver with Red Bull Racing when the season reconvenes at Zandvoort.” He doubled down on this confidence post-race, commenting, “Yesterday I had a good qualifying, a good day. It doesn’t change anything.”
Perez has been clear that he won’t entertain any further questions about his future with the team, emphasizing the need to focus on the present challenges. “This is the last time I will speak about the future,” he declared.
Sergio Perez’s confidence in staying with Red Bull remains unshaken despite a difficult Belgian Grand Prix.
